Should I buy the Snowmen?

Springfield is once again a Christmas wonderland and with this joyous occasion comes the snow.

Snow is great, as long as you don’t have to drive through it, luckily the roads in Springfield are kept clear by Mr Plow and now the Plow King!! The grass has been covered over in a thick layer of snow which is great if you want to make Snowmen, unfortunately like most good things in Springfield you can’t actually do this. In order to have Snowmen in your town, you’ll have to put your tired hand, into your worn out pockets to see if there is any money left in your battered wallet to purchase donuts. After an expensive Halloween this may not be possible for some.

I digress, five Snowmen where available to purchase last Christmas, Marge, Lisa, Maggie for $$$ while Homer and Bart were available at 20 donuts each. If you bought these Snowmen last year all is well, they will have “unmelted” and are ready to be used again. However If you missed any last Christmas or simply hadn’t started Tapped Out yet, they are all back again, but this year all of the Snowmen are 20 donuts each. For this Christmas they have added three new Snowmen, Grandpa, Santa’s little helper and snowball.

  • Snowmen add a nice Christmassy touch to the game.
  • They each add a bonus to $, XP or vanity depending on the Snowman.
  • Limited time decorations may not be available again.
  • Animal Snowmen could be used to promote the pet shop and Springfield downs!
  • Don't take up much space so could be hidden during summer to still get bonuses.

  • Cost 20 donuts each
  • They melt so don't look as good after Christmas
  • You can win all of them on Krusty's wheel of chance
  • As a seasonal decoration they look a bit odd during the summer.
  • No animation they just stand there looking cold.

I have all eight of the snowmen and a few spares! I bought the five original snowmen last year and then purchased the remaining three as soon as they were available in the shop. I don't like having an unfinished collection.. But for those who can't afford 180 donuts to collect all eight snowmen don't despair as they are all available to win on Krusty's wheel of chance. I wish I had know this earlier as I now have duplicate snowmen which I can't sell. (Also quite annoying)
If you don't have the patience to try and win them on the wheel and your donuts are burning a whole in your pocket, just buy them they do look nice and even in their melted forms still add bonuses to the game!

I've placed my snowmen outside the Simpsons house and Grandpa at his home! Where have you put yours?

Should I buy Santa’s Village?

Should you buy Santa’s Village?
I bought my Santa’s Village last Christmas mainly because I wanted the Santa costume for Homer, it’s the same price this year as it was then, 200 donuts which isn’t exactly cheap.
So let’s have a look at some pros and cons for buying or not!

  • It earns $300 a day and 30 XP.
  • Santa Homer earns money and XP at the premium rate.
  • It looks pretty nice surrounded by snow and reindeer.
  • It’s Christmas and Homer looks awesome walking around dressed as Santa.
  • Homers costume has many amusing outside tasks, he even gets to fly a sleigh!
  • It is a limited time building, after Christmas it could be gone for good! Or until next Christmas.

  • Santa’s Village has no animation.
  • It’s pretty expensive at 200 donuts.
  • There is another Santa in town and he is free!
  • Santa Homer won’t help you earn gift cards, Santa Flanders will.
  • No character apart from Homer interacts with Santa’s village and he only has one task there.
  • Homers costume can only really be used for a month, after the snow has gone it looks out of place.

Last year buying Santa’s Village was the only way to have a Santa walk your town this year there is a free option! I would probably only buy this if your collecting Homer costumes or if you have money to burn. It is a nice addition at Christmas time but for the rest of the year its a bit pointless the choice is yours though.

Here’s what I did with my Santa’s Village.

Let me know if your planning to buy it or perhaps you got it last year!

Should I purchase the Elf Home?

This Christmas special event is packed with items in the spirit of the holiday. More posts about ”Should I purchase…” will be coming but first, let’s take a look at the Elf Home and what you should know if you consider buying it. You can also always visit our ”Purchasing Decisions”  section of the blog located on the right side of the posts for information on items released in the past.

The Elf Home has a price tag of 60 donuts. It’s a limited item for the Christmas event. Every 24 hours, you will be able to tap the Elf logo over the house to release elves to collect presents and gift cards across your town. You can build more than one, actually you could have as many of them as you like because it’s not unique. More Elf Houses means more presents and gift cards. Looking at the personal prizes, it looks like the 4th one is an Elf House. Therefore, if you’re holding on to a few precious donuts my best advice would be to wait it out. It’s an Indian burial ground on Halloween type thing from what I understand.

Real-world connections, Yellow Subterfuge

One of the items you can add to your town (if you’re willing to part with 50 donuts) is a submarine. The official name for the item is the USS Tom Clancy. If you are familiar with the work of that author, you should have been able to pick-up on the reference the writers were making pretty easily.

Tom Clancy wrote, The Hunt for Red October, a book about a fictional nuclear submarine. Though perhaps you are more familiar with the film adaptation starring Sean Connery.

One other real-world reference is in the title of the episode, Yellow Subterfuge. This is an almost too-obvious nod to the song Yellow Submarine by The Beatles.

Should I purchase Caesar’s Pow-Wow Casino?

Native American’s are famously known for operating casinos. If you think Springfield should have it’s own casino you can now add Caesar’s Pow-Wow Casino to your town, but should you?

It does come with a character, but is that enough of a reason to buy it?

  • It earns $200 and 22 XP every 8h
  • It’s a build that comes with a character
  • It increases your Consumerism rating by 10 points.
  • The Tribal Chief earns money and XP at the premium rate

  • It’s a really big building, with measurements of 17 × 6
  • For 150 donuts, there are better things you could purchase
  • Unless you have a lot of free space, you may find this building hard to place
  • It doesn’t include the Pow-Wow’s Casino Sign, which cost an additional 40 donuts

Final Thoughts
Honestly, this is a piece of premium content I would pass on. It’s an expensive piece of content that doesn’t fit very will with the rest of the game. If you’re going to spend money on content, prioritize getting notable characters from the show in your town before one-off characters. Just because it’s only available for a limited-time doesn’t mean you should rush to purchase it.

Should I purchase the Wailing Wall?

The Wailing Wall is one of the few pieces of content that you can buy to generate ghosts. These will only be available for a limited-time, so you only have a week left to decide if you want to add this decoration to your town. If you’re on the fence about whether or not you want the Wailing Wall, take a day to think it over. You’ll be glad you did, trust me.

  • It’s always animated
  • Every 12h the Wailing Wall generates 6 ghosts
  • It looks better when decorated with Spooky Walls
  • Having this item increases your Vanity by 500 points

  • For 50 donuts, this may not be the best long-term value
  • It may not fit in with your decor so well once the fog has lifted
  • To decorate with Spooky Walls, you’ll have to spend even more donuts
  • Everyone is getting this as a free gift when they log-in tomorrow, so save your donuts

Should I purchase the Talking Krusty Doll?

Many of the items that were available for free during last year’s Halloween event have been added to the shop this year, only now they cost donuts. The Talking Krusty Doll is one of those items. Unlike most NPCs, this one has a voice

The doll alternates between two phrases: “I’m Krusty the Clown, and I love you very much.” and “Krusty say die!“. In one animation, you see a bunch of hearts appear. In the other, the doll pulls out a butcher knife. I’ll leave it to you figure out which phrase matches with each animation.

  • It has a voice
  • It has two phrases, each with distinct a animation to match those phrases
  • You’ll need this to complete the “Treehouse of Horror XXIII” section in the character list

  • For an NPC, 60 donuts is a bit pricey
  • You won’t receive any quests after buying this NPC
  • After Halloween, you may just end up putting this in storage anyway

Should I purchase Devil Flanders?

Last year, players received Devil Flanders for free, as his inclusion was important to the overall story of the Halloween event. This year he makes a return, but this time the costume will set you back 75 donuts. So is it worth the purchase price?

It is Ned’s only costume to date, so if you like having a little more variety for your characters, you might consider picking this up while you can.

  • The “Show His Wrath” outdoor task is quite unique
  • It is amusing to have the antithesis of Ned as an alternate costume

  • None of his tasks will help you earn any GOO
  • You won’t receive any quests with this costume
  • Most costumes that cost donuts pay at the premium rate, this one does not
  • His 24h task remains locked unless you also buy the Hell House façade, which cost 40 donuts

Should I purchase Zombies?

There are a pair of zombies in the shop, each priced at 12 donuts. It may be tempting to add the Crazy Zombie and Senile Zombie to your town, especially with the spooky atmosphere, but will they still be as aesthetically pleasing once the dark fog clears? It is something to consider before making your decision.

  • They won’t eat your eyes
  • Reasonably priced at 12 donuts each
  • They aren’t voiced, but they do have sound effects
  • You’ll need them if you want to collect all five zombies
  • The animations are fun, and reminiscent of last year’s Halloween event

  • They will eat your brains
  • They do not add anything beneficial to the game
  • Their animations are identical to the other zombies
  • The remaining three zombies don’t require a donut purchase
  • They could be a waste of donuts, making it harder to acquire higher priced items

Should I purchase the Ray Gun?

After completing the quest “Ultrahouse 2″, you will unlock the ability to purchase the Ray Gun. This item will allow you to shoot down the the UFO piloted by Kodos, thereby adding this character to your town.

If you already have Kang in your town, you won’t even see this item in your shop. This is because you already purchased the Ray Gun when it was available during last year’s Treehouse of Horror XXIII event. If that is the case, you’ll be able to shoot down Kodos for free.

If you don’t have Kang in your town, you will after placing the Victorian UFO. That means to get Kodos in your town as well, you’ll need to purchase the Ray Gun for 150 donuts.

  • She is voiced
  • She earns money and XP at a premium rate
  • She has four outdoor jobs with great animations
  • She comes with a very humorous four-part quest line
  • The Ray Gun provides 3.75%bonus money and XP to all Jobs
  • You’ll need her to unlock Kang’s 16h job, which is uniquely odd

  • The 150 donut asking price is a bit expensive
  • You won’t be able to earn GOO with this character
