Advanced Battle Strategies

Generally in events such as these, everyone always wants to know two things: What is best for me, and what is best for my neighbors? Should I attack? Should I defend? Should I just let my buildings get destroyed and repair them? Should I send one nerd out to attack one building, or send a whole group of them? Let’s break the numbers down and answer some of those questions, shall we?

You can attack a random town or a neighbor’s town. It is far better (and faster) to attack a random town. Why is this? Well think about it logically, why would you attack your neighbors instead of random strangers who are attacking you? Anyway, here is the breakdown of the numbers by category.

Attacking a random town

  • Win vs. castle: 140 elixir, 50 gold
  • Lose vs. castle: 10 elixir, 2 gold
  • Win vs. house: 70 elixir, 25 gold
  • Lose vs. house: 5 elixir, 1 gold

Attacking a friend’s town

  • Win vs. castle: 25 elixir, 10 gold
  • Lose vs. castle: 10 elixir, 2 gold
  • Win vs. house: 18 elixir, 8 gold
  • Lose vs. house: 5 elixir, 1 gold

Defending works the same across the board, regardless of who attacked you. If you defend (i.e. tap the shield icon) you will earn twice the amount of elixir and gold that your attacker would have won had they been successful. So if you want to be benevolent and help out other players, don’t tap shields. If you want more rewards for yourself, defend.

  • Win vs. castle or house: 20 elixir, 10 gold
  • Lose vs. castle or house: 10 elixir, 5 gold

If you attack with a group of nerds you can knock down a house in 60m an a caste in 4h, assuming the opponent doesn’t defend. The faster you wreck buildings, the more likely you’ll be to win the big reward. Of course if you lose with one nerd or nine nerds, a loss is still a loss. There isn’t a definitive answer to this question, it is very much a roll of the dice.

All of the numerical information here comes from our friend tstohacker from Reddit who figured out the exactly how all of this works. We got permission to posts this information here, and that we are very appreciative of that kindness. Hopefully this helps everyone plan their battle strategies accordingly.

one time I didn’t see a shield above my castle and then it was destroyed and I had to rebuild it.Was that because someone use a cheats 20 on it, or do I have to do something so the shields will show up?

I also, had used all my nerds to attack random towns so I didn’t have any available in my nerd counter.Do the shields only show up if I have some nerds in my nerd counter?

What is the purpose uf upgrading caracters?

    • August 23, 2014 at 7:58 am#

Some characters earn elixir, upgrading them allows them to earn more per job.

DON’T TAP SHIELDS.There is no benefit to defending your houses. The article above didnot include the fact that you get 10 gold and 5 elixer for restoring a destroyed building.add that to the benefit of losing and you are better letting your house get destroyed!Everyone makes out better if you don’t defend your houses.
The castle is a little different. If you want to reap your nerds, you need to clear the shield above it, so you will need to defend your castle.
So the strategy everyone should use is to attack the random town, 1nerd per house.consider attacking a castle only if you think the owner won’t be back soon.

    • August 22, 2014 at 6:32 pm#

The article mentions that specifically actually under the “defending” section. There is a bonus for defending too, you get 20 gold and 10 elixir for defending. So it is in your best interested to defend, just not in the best interest of your attacker.

In an ideal world it would be a great idea, JimP. At start I only send 1 nerd to 1 house. Most people defend and have the right to do so. Now I just sent 10 nerds to 1 house (1h attack), which seems the most successful (and only if the owner seems absent for a while). If I want to attack a castle in 4h, it mostly doesn’t work.

No one is randomly attacking my town but my friend has loads attacking him all day. Can someone give me advice? I’ve been playing all day but not had anyone attack me. My friend is pretty much on the 3rd prize and I’ve not even managed the first!

    Please help!

I wonder what’s going to happen with all the gold you accumulate during the event.
Would be cool to trade/spend it on something when the event is over.

Yeah, I think you’re right and there is a lot that doesn’t add up in this update.

Maybe I just have little brain(some people think so as I play this game!) but I do not understand the numbers. Please can someone explain?

If “If you defend (i.e. tap the shield icon) you will earn twice the amount of elixir and gold that your attacker would have won had they been successful.” is true how does this not mean that e.g. If you tap the shield on your castle that has been attacked by an Invader as opposed to a friend, you get 240 elixir and 100 gold?

    • August 21, 2014 at 10:38 am#

You’re confusing an “attack win” with a “defensive win”. The 240 elixir and 100 gold is an example of an “attack win”, where as 20 elixir and 10 gold is something you get from a “defensive win”.

It sounds like it’s more important to play often and fend off attackers (twice the reward), than to be investing a lot of effort (and nerds) into starting attacks. Set off an attack from a single nerd in a town, give them a chance to fend it off and claim the 2x reward, and then let them do the same for you.

In some of the other events, characters got new tasks that earned event currency. In this event, does anyone earn elixir or whatever through tasks?

Good to know! Thanks! I wonder what is best to spend your gold on: leveling up your characters first or go for the prizes. If you want level 2 of barbarian homer it costs 750….

      • Mark F
        August 21, 2014 at 10:03 am#

I’m thinking it might be better to first get all the prizes. I leveled up barbarian Homer to level 2 but it only increased my elixir reward by 1.I have no idea what higher levels increase the reward by, but an increase of 1 is pretty stingy for the amount of gold spent to level up.

        • August 21, 2014 at 10:12 am#

          Gold isn’t spent, it’s cumulative.

When you level up a character doesn’t it deduct from the gold that you accumulate to win the prizes?

          • August 21, 2014 at 10:21 am#

No it does not. I’m making a post to explain this now.

          August 21, 2014 at 10:27 am#

Thans for you reply, Mark F. Indeed, it is a lot of gold for a rather small reward. Good to have figured this out in our strategy :-)

      • August 21, 2014 at 10:12 am#

You don’t actually spend gold. It’s all cumulative.

Neither did I until I tested it, but it’s not something one would really test unless they have all the prizes.

There will be a finished building yellow check mark (the same check when a new building is completed) over the building which needs to be repaired.Just tap the check & the building is repaired.

I think it’s just for the joke, you don’t actually spend any gold, you just need to have enough, like for the prizes. I think it’s a poke at the actual Clash of Whatever game.

Great post & a very helpful one.Do you know how long the revenge button sticks around? It popped up when I had no nerds to send, but when I got more from my castle the revenge button disappeared. Should we keep one nerd in reserve in case the revenge button shows up in the future or is that only necessary for the “get revenge” task?

    • August 20, 2014 at 1:31 pm#

It can’t keep to have a few nerds on hand. Revenge isn’t very important other than that quest line, just something fun you can do.

  20. Joyce
    August 20, 2014 at 12:52 pm#

one issue is that if you don’t defend, I think the building remains blocked for the complete length of time it’s being attacked (so your other neighbors can’t attack it) This doesn’t seem very neighborly

    • August 20, 2014 at 12:54 pm#

Hopefully they send lots of nerds so they get wrecked quickly. Instead of defending just quickly rebuild when they are destroyed.

      August 20, 2014 at 12:47 pm#

You can immediately destroy a building or use it to rebuild/defend building in your town. There will be an icon in the upper right corner in your town. You might get a Cheater beofre this unlocks, so if it’s no there yet, be patient.

Thanks for posting this! It’s very helpful and explains why I was sometimes winning only 5 elixirs when I was expecting more. I didn’t realize one could actually be defeated when attacking someone else. Makes obvious sense in hindsight though.

Should I attack with as many nerds as I can on a house/castle or not? (I’m not a premium player)

    • Graylo
      August 20, 2014 at 12:36 pm#

It depend on how risk adverse you are, but I think you should attack with as few nerds as you can.

The key is to think about it in terms of Elixer/gold per nerd. Lets say you use 10 nerds to attack a random castle. If you win you get 14 elixers/5 gold per nerd. If you lose you get 1 elixer/0.2 gold per nerd. Now lets say you use those 10 nerds to attack 10 random castles. Assuming that they all lose you get 10 Elixer/2 gold per nerd for a guarenteed 100 Elixer/20 gold.

In short by using the max number of nerds you are betting 90 Elixer/18 gold in the hopes of winning 40 elixer/30 gold.

It doesn’t sound like a very good bet to me in general terms. Might make sense to use more before you go to bed hoping to chatch someone while they are asleep.
